Did you know that Buena Vista, GA, ...

Ever heard of Eddie Owens Martin? You're in for a treat! Born on the Fourth of July, 1908, in rural southwest Georgia, Eddie always felt like an outsider among the "God-fearing" folks. At just fourteen, he craved adventure, so he did what any restless spirit would: he hitchhiked all the way to New York City! He plunged into the Roaring '20s, supporting himself as a hustler, fortune teller, and waiter, while soaking up NYC's vibrant culture in museums, galleries, and libraries, and definitely enjoying the company of its most colorful characters.
Then came 1935, and everything changed. During a high fever, Eddie received his first profound vision from a futuristic, gender-fluid being. This powerful encounter commanded him to transform his life and follow Pasaquoyanism, a brand new religion. Eddie wholeheartedly embraced this cosmic directive, changing his name to St. EOM (pronounced "ohm"), becoming the world's first and, as far as we know, only, Pasaquoyan. For over two decades in New York, he meticulously developed his spiritual beliefs and crafted a unique Pasaquoyan aesthetic, lavishly fusing it with the glamorous 1930s NYC fashion scene.
In 1956, another vision called St. EOM back to his roots – his recently deceased mother's farm, just 8 miles outside Buena Vista, Georgia. Here, while working as a fortune teller and card reader, he began his life's magnum opus: Pasaquan. For the last three decades of his life, St. EOM poured his soul into creating this extraordinary seven-acre art environment, a truly unique testament to his unwavering vision.
Today, Pasaquan stands as a magnificent, sprawling wonderland. It boasts six major structures with intricate mandala murals inside, and over 900 feet of elaborately painted masonry walls outside. Its design is a vibrant fusion of pre-Columbian Mexican, African, Native American, and other spiritual symbols, even drawing inspiration from "The Lost Continent of MU." More than just a quirky local gem, Pasaquan is recognized as one of the most significant visionary art environments in the entire United States, and is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s truly a sight to behold and a testament to one man's extraordinary spirit.
So, next time you're in our neck of the woods, why not take a detour and step into the incredible world St. EOM built? It's truly a sight to behold and a testament to one man's extraordinary vision. You won't regret it! Only 40 min drive from our B&B.
